Exchanger and Vessel Gaskets
AMG work closely with major manufacturers to produce bespoke Heat Exchanger and Vessel Gaskets to exact customer requirements. Typically Heat Exchanger and Vessel gaskets are constructed in the following styles:
Camprofile Gaskets
The Camprofile (or Grooved) Gasket consists of a profiled laser cut metallic core which is then machined with concentric grooves on either side and faced with a soft sealing layer.
Camprofile gaskets provide the highest level of seal integrity, yet offer the ability to seal at seating stresses normally associated with sheeting products. Available in a wide range of core materials to mirror the material used in the piping or exchanger system – Camprofiles are the gasket of choice for heat exchanger applications.
Properties:-
- Highly suitable for varying temperatures and pressures.
- Less sensitive to assembly faults (inaccurate bolt tightening)
- Suitable for light and heavy designed flanges.
- Dependent upon the layer material Camprofile gaskets can resist temperatures up to 1000OC.
- Resistant to media pressures > 400 bar.
- When assembled the remaining thickness of the sealing material is extremely low (0.1 - 0.2mm), thus reducing leaks, fail rates and environmental pollution.
- The gasket will not damage the flange surface and can be easily removed.
- Camprofile cores are re-usable after cleaning, inspection and re-layering with new sealing material. This is of particular interest in the case of heat exchanger gaskets.
- Reduces maintenance costs and leakage - thanks to the Camprofile’s high sealing performance and reliability.
- Camprofile gaskets can be made in a variety of shapes with pass bars for heat exchanger applications.
Metal Jacketed Gaskets
Metal Jacketed (or Clad) gaskets consist of a metal cover and ‘soft’ sealing material filler. The sealing filler provides outstanding resilience, while the metal jacket guarantees excellent sealing and protects the filler against pressure conditions, fluctuating temperatures and corrosion.
A wide variety of materials are available to guarantee excellent sealing. These include Stainless Steel, Brass, Carbon Steel/Soft Iron, Monel, Inconel, Incoloy on the outer jacket and filler materials are typically Millboard (Non Asbestos), PTFE or Graphite
Whilst still commonly used in Vessel and Heat exchanger applications – the Metal Jacketed gaskets are in many applications being replaced by the Camprofile. This is due to Metal Jacketed gaskets requiring machined flange faces, high bolt loads and exact flange alignment to ensure an effective seal.
